I first discovered my love of golf at the age of 14, initially playing on the school field with my brother. I quickly decided I wanted to learn the game properly and joined the George Washington Golf & Country Club as a junior.
During my time at Washington I won 12 competitions, nine as a junior and 3 as an adult member, representing the club in the North Durham County Golf Leagues. I also represented South Tyneside College at National level while studying there.
I was also lucky enough to get some lessons from John Harrison, the Pro at Matfen Hall Golf Club, who used to coach Tour Players and the he helped me immensely with my game. The lowest handicap I have achieved is 3.8 (playing 4).
It was my love of the game and desire to do more that lead me to become a teaching professional.
As an aspiring golfer I would have loved to tour as a professional, but it wasn't to be and I believed the next best thing had to be a career in coaching.
So in July 2006, I travelled to Kilkenny in Ireland to sit my professional teaching course to ensure I had all the necessary knowledge and skills to become a coaching professional.
Passing the exams with flying colours, I left with a recommendation from Peter Hudson (the then President of the World Golf Teachers Federation of Great Britain & Ireland ) and joined the teaching staff at the McGregor Driving Range in Wheatley Hill, County Durham .
In May of this year I joined the Elemore Family Golfing Centre as their Golfing Instructor, ready and able to share my love of golf and everything I have learnt with anyone who fancies trying golf for the first time or simply wants to improve their game.
So if you want to pick up a few tips, get some advice on your game, or give golf a go for the first time, why not give me a call or drop into the Pro shop for a chat.
